In our Pre-school Classes we teach your children important skills like balance and co-ordination. With expert supervision and a playful environment, it's a great way for them to have fun and lay the foundations of a healthy, active lifestyle.

With an adventure playground to explore and lots of exciting activities to get involved in, the sessions are always energetic and entertaining. And while they're having fun with new friends, they'll also be getting a head start in the world of physical exercise.

We have been listening to all of our current members, as well as those who are particularly interested in pre-school gymnastics, and we have developed a new structure which we are confident will have something for everyone.

As always, our classes are carefully planned to provide fun, safe and structured learning.

Whether you want to come along to our drop-in sessions, or would like to join our more structured classes, Harrogate Gymnastics has something for you.

Please note that each child must be accompanied by a parent or carer who will help them explore the equipment. Being there every step of the way you will be able to see your child progress and celebrate in their achievements.

Each session is all about play where the children can freely explore the equipment of the gym, developing co-ordination, balance, spatial awareness and strength as well as having lots of fun!

This will include:

  • bars
  • rings
  • soft play
  • high, medium and floor beams
  • trampoline
  • basic vault stations
  • floor skills

Finally there will be a group cool down, followed by stickers and stamps for hard work.

Remember, no need to book, just come along and have a go.

Structured Classes

Our pre-school structured classes are for children aged from 2.5 years old who can participate independently of their parent/carer. Each class is 40 minutes of fun, continuous activity using the full range of gymnastic equipment, trampolines, and the foam pit.

With a small coach to children ratio, each child receives proper instruction and has many opportunities to practise gymnastic skills that help develop and improve their listening skills, balance, spacial awareness, coordination, flexibly, agility, and strength.

We will regularly evaluate each child's progress against the stage criteria to see which specific areas need further work, where they are excelling and how much they are improving.

Class times are:

10.40 - 11.25

11.30 - 12.10

1.00 - 1.40

1.40 - 2.20

11.35 - 12.15

11.35 - 12.15

12.40 - 1.20pm

Each class is in 4 parts:
Part 1 - a gentle group warm up to either music or a story.

Part 2 - gentle stretching using different hand apparatus each week.

Part 3 - fun stations to help develop the all round development of your child. Children will explore various challenging stations which will include beams, bars, rings, tunnels, soft play and table tops.

Part 4 - lessons finish with a gentle group cool down with stretches after which each child receives their own personal achievement sticker showing you what aspect of gymnastics they have done particularly well in during the class.

Award Scheme

We have designed our special Pre-School Award Scheme so you can see how your child is developing as they move from Stage One (Tiny Tumblers) through Stage Two (Mini Rollers) on to Stage 3 (Mighty Movers).

Stage 1 - Tiny TumblersScreen shot 2013-01-21 at 23.05.19
We support our Tiny Tumblers in exploring the gym, learning new movements and gaining valuable motor skills which will help with their general physical development. There's a maximum of 12 children per class (6:1 ratio) to allow for lots of interaction within the group and with our coaches.

Once your child has mastered the basic gymnastics skills they will achieve our Stage 1 Award, receive their Tiny Tumbler ribbon and then move on to Stage 2.

Stage 2 - Mini Rollers
These classes build on Tiny Tumblers and teach children the next stage of gymnastics skills, and start to introduce the more advanced movement patterns and co-ordination skills. Once children have achieved our Stage 2 Award they will receive a Mini Rollers' ribbon and move to Stage 3.

Stage 3 - Mighty Movers
At this stage classes are structured in the same way as above however the children are now starting to master some more complex gymnastics skills and working towards the final level of the pre-school award scheme.

Most children will be starting their Bronze award (the first level of our school-age award scheme) which they will continue with once they move to our 4+ after-school classes.

Once children have achieved our Stage 3 Award they will receive a Mighty Movers medal and move to Bronze Award.

This structure allows for a smooth transition to the recreational classes as well as the chance to get a head start on the award scheme.

Seamless transition to Bronze award for school age children!
